EPA is committed to providing the superior of pain management in these circumstances. EPA staff will demonstrate respect for the freedom of conscience and religious and other beliefs of our patients, especially concerning suffering, treatment, dying and death. EPA is likewise committed to ensuring that patients can make their own informed choices about their care, including the type and site of care. EPA undertakes to yield good professional services and promote not only to patients, but also to their families, care givers and others. While the ultimate responsibility for decisions about a patient’s treatment usually lies with the tolerant and his or her medical practitioner, all members of the palliative protection team must make their own professional contribution to palliative care decisions and are accountable for their own practice. EPA looks to its Ethics Committee to advise on the application of this code and more general principles to the protection of our patients, to advise on ethical issues relating to the employment and deployment of staff, and to aid in the orientation and ongoing professional formation of management and staff.
